Wildlife crime
South Yorkshire Police has 16 Wildlife Crime Officers who carry out the role in addition to their day to day duties. To contact your nearest Wildlife Crime Officer, please contact South Yorkshire Police on 0114 220 2020.
Their role incorporates:-
- Preventing and reducing wildlife crime
- Working in partnership with other organisations
- Investigation of crimes against wildlife and the environment
They also work closely with the RSPB, RSPCA, farming, landowning and game keeping organisations and with other groups who have a working or leisure involvement with wildlife and the environment. Wildlife crime includes:
- Illegal trapping, shooting, snaring or poisoning of birds or animals
- Badger digging
- Poaching deer, game or fish
- The collecting of wild birds eggs
- Digging up or in some cases picking wild plants
- The introduction to the wild of non indigenous species
- Illegal international trade in wildlife
