South Yorkshire Police work very closely with Breweries and local Licensees. As part of our commitment to making Sheffield even safer, we have helped to introduce polycarbonate-drinking glasses to a number of local pubs around the Hillsborough Corner area. These glasses do not break or shatter, even if stood on, and are lighter weight than traditional drinking glasses. They even keep drinks cold for longer than glass.
Hillsborough is a safe area for people to go out and enjoy themselves, with only two incidents involving glasses in the last 6 years. However, following this initiative being successful in the City Centre, we have extended the scheme to cover Hillsborough corner venues.
This has been well supported by the pubs involved who were more than happy to help us in making Sheffield one of the safest cities in England.
