A major project by the Sheffield DAAT (Drugs And Alcohol Team) has just been published, in which pupils at local secondary schools were asked about their personal experiences with alcohol. Some of the young people told us that using alcohols made them more likely to;

  • Commit antisocial behaviour,
  • Get into trouble with the police,
  • Fall out with frineds and get into fights,
  • Take part in sexual acts which they later regretted,
  • Have to deal with unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections,
  • Say YES to drugs.

We're asking parents and carers to;

  • Lead by example, by not drinking to excess or exceeding your recommended units,
  • Remove temptation of stock of drinks at home, especially spirits,
  • Talk to your child if you suspect that they're drinking,
  • Make sure your children are safe and you know where they are,
  • Seek help if a child's drinking is getting out of control.
