In the run up to Christmas Wentworth Valley (SNT) Safer Neighbourhood Team were out and about encouraging people to register their treasured belongings onto a free property database called Immobilise.com.

Officers attended at several venues over a two week period to register phones and other portable media products.

We have also been working with young people to register their bikes on the database. Over the coming months we will be attending at more venues to increase the amount of bikes registered. If all bikes were registered (and we're hoping they will) we would be able to repatriate them with their rightful owners should they be lost or stolen.

The system is already being used to check every mobile phone when offenders are processed through the custody suite at Rotherham Main Street.

Second hand dealers are also being encouraged to sign up to "Checkmend" which is part of the same system and for a nominal fee; they can check the database for stolen items.

For more information about this service and to register, your items please visit http://www.immobilise.com/.

For commercial businesses, please view the "Checkmend" site at http://www.checkmend.com/uk/
