On Friday 15th November 2010 we went into a pub in Stocksbridge with one of the police drugs dogs. These dogs are specially trained to detect even the smallest traces of drugs, wether their in people's pockets, wallets, coats or even if they've recently handled drugs.
We recovered a quantity of amphetamine that had been discarded on the floor and one female was fined £80 for possession of cannabis.
Acting Sergeant Hawker, who was part of the operation, said, "This was a successful use of the dog. People have seen what these specialist dogs can do on all the TV shows and they know that they can't hide drugs from them. Several people obviously saw the dog come into the pub and threw their drugs away. We've now got hundreds of pounds worth of drugs off the streets."
Following the success of this operation our team are planning to do it again at other venues where we suspect drugs are being used or dealt.
