In the past three months the SNT in Upperthorpe, Netherthorpe, Walkley and Langsett have successfully executed four warrants on houses suspected in being involved in cannabis growing.
- - Two of the houses were being used for growing cannabis. The growing setups have now been dismantled and plants destroyed
- - Quantities of cannabis were also seized from the other two addresses
- - One man has been charged with possessing cannabis with intent to supply it
- - Three other people are on police bail for offences varying from cultivation of cannabis, being involved in supplying cannabis and money laundering
- - We have also seized over £26,000 of money believed to have come from illegal activity. If the courts agree this money will be permanently confiscated from those involved
PC Hawker, who was the officer in charge of several of these warrants said,
"Compared to other big cities, Sheffield does not have a major drug problem, but where we suspect someone is involved in drugs, we will take swift action against them to ensure that the drugs don't get onto the streets and we'll seize their money to ensure that they don't profit from illegal activities"
Many drugs warrants are obtained using information gained from the general public. This can be done anonymously through Crimestoppers, either online (follow this link to crimestoppers) or over the phone on 0800 555 111.
