We asked:

What issues concerned you most in your area

You said:

At the PACT meeting held on 20th May 2010 you told us that you were concerned about antisocial behaviour on Deer Park Road, Deer Park View and Deer Park Close, Stannington between 4pm and 11pm. It was agreed as a PACT priority.

This PACT priority has been continued at every subsequent PACT meeting for the area, up to and including the most recent one.

On 23rd September 2011 this priority was extended to cover Deer Park Close and Roscoe Mount.

On 27th July2011 it was further extended to cover Stanwood avenue, in response to concerns from local residents about issues in the area.

Date of priority:
20 May 2010
Approximate times of offence:

Between 4pm and 10pm

Our first response to this issue will be to simply increase the amount of patrol time spent by officers and community officers in the Deer Park area. A higher visibilty presence will deter trouble makers, and also mean we can better deal with those who do cause problems.

UPDATE for MAY

The PACT priority has been flagged up to the Neighbourhood Patrol Groups (NPGs), the officers who deal with immediate incidents called to the police, on duty 24 hours a day. This means that, as well as the SNT staff, the NPG officers will also pay attention to the area whenever they get some patrol time free in between incidents.

UPDATE for JUNE

In June community officers (PCSOs) spent 170 hours of active patrol time in Stannington, much of which was spent in and around the Deer Park area. This is in addition to the police officers time. This has contributed to the reduction of reported incidents in the area.

UPDATE for JULY

We're continuing to deploy our specialist cycle officers and community officers in the Deer Park area. We are aware that much of the antisocial behaviour happens on the grassland between the flats, making it difficult for officers in cars to get to. Officers on marked mountain bikes are able to cover this ground, quickly and easily and so have more of an impact in the area.

In July PCSOs conducted a further 68 hours of active patrols in the area, much of it on foot, as well as on bikes and in cars.

UPDATE for AUGUST

Over the summer months we will be sending officers from the police's mounted section into the Deer Park area. They have advantages in their ability to go off the roads and across the playing fields there, as well as being able to see over a great distance due to their height.

UPDATE for September

We have now sucessfully installed a CCTV camera in the area. This has given us several valuable leads in detecting those responsible for antisocial or criminal behaviour in the area and provides footage of a good enough quality to use for evidence at court.

As people in the area have come to know about the camera it has detered local youths from gathering and misbehaving as some of them had previously done, resulting in a decrease in the number of complaints recieved by the police.

UPDATE for October

We have had some reports of youths hanging about in the towerblocks in the area. As such we have been working with Sheffield Homes and reviewing CCTV footage to identify those responsible and deal with them accordingly.

If you have any information in relation to this, or any other priority, in the area, please call the SNT direct on 0114 296 4912 and leave a message, or dial 101 for police callhandlers at any time.
