What issues concerned you most in your area
At the PACT meeting held on 25th March 2010 you told us that you were concerned by antisocial behaviour on Rural Lane, Ben Lane and Hallowmoor Road, Wisewood between 4pm and 10pm.
This PACT priority has been retained at every PACT meeting since it was introduced, up to and including the most recent meeting on 26th August 2010.
Between 4pm and 10pm.
Our first response to this issue will be to simply increase the amount of patrol time spent by officers and community officers in the Wisewood area. A higher visibilty presence will deter trouble makers, and also mean we can better deal with those who do cause problems.
UPDATE for MAY
The PACT priority has been flagged up to the Neighbourhood Patrol Groups (NPGs), the officers who deal with immediate incidents called to the police, on duty 24 hours a day. This means that, as well as the SNT staff, the NPG officers will also pay attention to the area whenever they get some patrol time free in between incidents.
We have also had a CCTV camera installed at the junction of Ben Lane and Rural Lane. The camera moves around and covers the streets off the junction and the area in front of the shops, which has traditionally been a place where youths hang about and can cause problems.
UPDATE for JUNE
In June community officers (PCSOs) spent 112 hours of active patrol time in Wisewood, much of which was spent in and around the Ben Lane area. This is in addition to the police officers time. This has contributed to the reduction of reported incidents in the area.
We have also been sucessful in seizing alcohol from under-age drinkers. The alcohol has been disposed of down the drain, and letters have been sent out to their parents to advise them of what their children have been getting up to.
UPDATE for JULY
We're continuing to deploy our specialist cycle officers and community officers in the Deer Park area. We are aware that much of the antisocial behaviour happens on the parks and fields in the area, making it difficult for officers in cars to follow youths if they move about or run off. Officers on marked mountain bikes are able to cover this ground, quickly and easily and so have more of an impact in the area.
In July PCSOs conducted a further 127 hours of active patrols in the area, much of it on foot, as well as on bikes and in cars.
UPDATE for AUGUST
Analysis of figures for incidents and crimes reported to the police show that these roads have had five incidents of antisocial behaviour on them in the last month. This is down by half of the ten incidents of antisocial behaviour on the same streets in the month before. This shows that the police presence in the area is working to deter and prevent antisocail behaviour and crime.
The SNT have recently run a series of 'test purchases' for licensed premises in the area. One shop in the Wisewood area did fail, and we will be taking action through the courts to deal with this shop, and potentially review their license to sell alcohol. This is one of the ways which we will act to stop alcohol getting to underage drinkers, in order to stop it from fueling antisocial behviour.
If you have any information in relation to this, or any other priority, in the area, please call the SNT direct on 0114 296 4912 and leave a message, or dial 101 for police callhandlers at any time.
