The area of Eastdene has received numerous complaints relating to Nuisance Youths in and around the Lanes complex. This area is primarily occupied by old age pensioners and due to the nature of the geographic make up provides a haven for young people to loiter.

Staff from Rotherham South are working with Housing Officers and the Street Pride department to resolve these current issues.

Recently work has been carried out to improve security and accessibility to the area.

Gating has been erected in specific areas to restrict access to known problematic areas.

In addition to this increased high visibility foot patrols and community consultation ‘Walkabouts’ have taken place.

In March Test Purchase operations took place at local off licences as there have been issues with under age drinking. This is where the Police and Trading Standards send persons under 18 into a shop to buy alcohol. The shop assistant should challenge the young person regarding their age and no sale should take place. If the shop sells to the under age customer enforcement action is taken against the retailer. This can result in the licensee having their licence reviewed. On the occasion of the tests two premises failed and sold to the person under 18.

Staff have also been on patrol recovering alcohol from persons under 18 in the street. Do you know this is one of the powers open to PCSO's. If the person is drunk they are returned home and spoken to in front of their parents.

At the PACT meeting of 5th May this priority was replaced. Work will continue in this loaction as it forms part of the larger East Dene Action Plan.
