What issues concerned you most in your area?
At the PACT meeting held on Thursday 16th December 2010 you told us that you were concerned by antisocial behaviour occurring on Upperthorpe Road Shops between 4pm and 11pm.
This priority was continued at subsequent PACT meetings, up to and including the most recent one.
Following consultation with residents in the area, in June we decided to enlarge the area covered by this PACT priority to include the estate behind the shops, consisting of Philadelphia Gardens, Philadelphia Grove, Philadelphia Drive and Midvale Avenue.
The SNT officers will be increasing the frequency of patrols on Upperthorpe Road and in the surrounding area. This will be to act as a deterent to those who might cause antisocial behaviour, and to catch those who do.
UPDATE for January
We are continuing our increased patrols in the area and we are looking to station a mobile police station in the vicinity for times throughout the next month.
UPDATE for Februaury
We have been doing extensive work with many of the shop keepers on Upperthorpe Road and we're starting to make some headway in identifying the reasons that some of these people are hanging about and what we can do to stop them.
UPDATE for March
We've also identified an alleyway which was regularly being used as a shortcut by those commiting antisocial acts. Following consultaion with the post Office this alleyway is now blocked off with a gate.
We've mounted a CCTV camera in the Upperthorpe Road area, which regularly scans the areas identified as used by antisocial youths loitering.
UPDATE for April
We have continued increased patrolling in the area. By identifying and recording the details of those causing problems in the area we are able to build up cases for action against them. This means that even when behaviour stops short of criminal acts, so we can't make arrests, we can build up a body of evidence which could eventually used to gain Antisocial Behaviour Orders (ASBOs) to deal with this behaviour.
UPDATE for May
We have been recovering a number of abandoned bikes from the area. Some of these are believed to be stolen, but we are unable to trace the owners. To read more about how you can help secure your property and prevent things like this follow this link Crime prevention- How you can help
UPDATE for June
We have altered the area covered by this PACT priority, so as to include the Philadelphia Garden / Midvale Avenue estate. We will be increasing patrols in the area, on foot and bikes as well as in cars, to prevent this area's gennels and alleyways being used by trouble makers.
If you have any information in relation to this, or any other priority, in the area, please call the SNT direct on 0114 296 4912 and leave a message, or dial 101 for police callhandlers at any time.
